Two Calculators in One

This grade and GPA calculator has two modes. Weighted Grade mode works out your overall grade in a course from each assignment's score, maximum score and weight, and converts it to a letter grade. GPA mode calculates your grade point average from the letter grade and credit hours of each course, and shows any Latin honors you qualify for.

How Weighted Grades and GPA Are Calculated

Weighted grade = Σ(score ÷ max score × weight) ÷ Σ(weights). For example, homework at 90% worth 20%, a midterm at 80% worth 30% and a final at 85% worth 50% gives a weighted grade of 18 + 24 + 42.5 = 84.5%, which is a B.

GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ total credits, using a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on). For example, an A in a 4-credit class and a B in a 3-credit class gives (16 + 9) ÷ 7 = 3.57.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade do I need on my final exam?

Enter your current scores plus the final exam with its weight, then try different final scores until the overall grade reaches your target. That shows the minimum you need on the final.

Do weights need to add up to 100%?

No. The calculator divides by the total of the weights you enter, so it works even if you have only completed part of the course. That makes it useful for checking your current grade mid-semester.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA uses the standard 4.0 scale for every class. Some high schools use a weighted GPA that gives extra points for honors, AP or IB courses, which can push a GPA above 4.0. This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale.
